Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
There's two models. Is it worth it to get the more expensive one?

Re: Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
...with todays insanely fast & powerful computers I would take the slowest and coolest I could get... the latest models of 15" MBP are almost burning up anyway... (there's been a lot of problems with overheating) I would have waited to the spring 2012 redesign, if I were you!
Re: Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
but DO get the hi-res antiglare display! (it makes such a great difference, I got it on my MBP 17")

Re: Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
Thanks for the input. Need a 'puter right now though as my current machine is failing.
Re: Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
The current MacBooks have no overheating problems.
I use Ableton and play Deus Ex: HR on mine for hours, and there hasn't been a problem. In fact, the new quad core models run A LOT cooler than the old dual core models.
I bought the new 15" last week.

Re: Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
Maybe he's referring to when the 2011 MBP first came out - there was a couple of software issues that caused overheating (fans didn't spin up in time) and resulted in GPU related crashes when it got hot (due to another bug). Both were fixed in an update a few weeks after the machines came out.
Nothing to see here - move along!
Re: Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
Yeah, I don't how the newest (fall 2011) works but the earlier quadcores wasn't that nice... Lot's of cases with too much Thermal Paste were also reported on several macforums...
(I just hope that fans at 6000-8000 rpm not are the price to pay for power & speed, I like my fans at 2000 rpm, silent & cool...)

I have an early model (spring 2011) 2.2 Ghz MBP and it never had any heating issues. Go figure.avart wrote:Yeah, I don't how the newest (fall 2011) works but the earlier quadcores wasn't that nice... Lot's of cases with too much Thermal Paste were also reported on several macforums...

Re: Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
Can any of you tell me more about the new line of MBPs due early next year? I think I may have found a solution that'll tide me over.
Re: Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
there's just rumors, but - MBP-line will be more like the MBA's = no optical drives and a thinner design (I would love to have the air's "blade"-SSD too, but a lot of users still prefer TB's of 2,5" HD storage instead...)
Re: Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
I would wait for the next model. SSD drives and new processors. Current model is over 3 years old.

But possibly no optical?JAMM wrote:I would wait for the next model. SSD drives and new processors. Current model is over 3 years old.
Re: Which 15'' MacBook Pro?
If you buy a MacBook now and take good care of it the next 6 months, chances are you'll be able to resell it with at least 80% resale value. And when the new MacBooks come out (or don't. You never know with technology) you can ask yourself if they're worth selling your old computer for.
I went from last spring's dual core i5 model, and the i7 quad core + double as good GPU was a HUGE leap for me. But if next year's model has almost identical specs, you might want to think "do I need this, or do I just want the newest of the newest?".
But it's your choice man
