They probably didn't really see a 2-4GB file size limitation as a problem back in 1991.

Re: Exporting Audio over 2047MB
Do people really listen to 4 hour DJ sets all in one sitting? Why not divide it up into much smaller chunks, like 10 minutes each? Chemical Brothers did on Brothers Gonna Work It Out, and it was a great halfway point between "ridiculously long dj set" and "mixtape".

i know people who does that, yes.the_planet wrote:Do people really listen to 4 hour DJ sets all in one sitting? Why not divide it up into much smaller chunks, like 10 minutes each? i also know people doing musique concréte pieces, and one of them is nearing the 4 hour mark as we speak.
the point is that for a software like this, it's a stupid limitation.
what if you make a generative sound installation and you want to record it to pick out the good parts?

Oh absolutely. What inspired me to actually make a 4-hour mix was DJ Eros and his Perfect Mix podcast, a weekly podcast of progressive and uplifting trance, each 4 hours long.the_planet wrote:Do people really listen to 4 hour DJ sets all in one sitting? Btw, I got the 4-hour mix to work. Got to be a complete 4-hour mp3 mix. Thank you all.

This has got to be the dumbest thing ever. It kind of burns me up considering I always go to bat for Ableton. I do really long mixes 3-4 hours, having to break up the mix just for output is terrible and complete hassle. There should be no limitations other than memory or available storage for outputting a mix!! Get with Ableton, I may have to switch. Such a simple feature to remove. FUUUUCKK!

You can reduce the file size by lowering the bit depth and sample rate.
