Hello,

I have just completed a 4-hour continuous progressive and uplifting trance mix on Ableton. It's 37 tracks and about 7223 beat time units long. I go ahead to Export Audio/Video and it tells me when I click to save file that "The selected time range is too long to be rendered into a single file. 2433 MB would be required for each rendered audio file, and Live only supports rendering files of less than 2047 MB." The .als file of my Live Set is at 44MB.

What can I do in this instance to have the entire 4 hour mix converted onto a single .mp3 file?

I have tried to break the entire mix .als file into two separate .als files, where I then tried to put them into a new blank Live Set and mix them together as to Audio files, but again, that'll make the entire thing well over 7000 beat time units long and still can't get processed by Ableton as one single .wav file.

How do you render at 1/2 length? I can't seem to find that option when in the 'Export Audio/Video' box.

So instead of selecting 44100 for sample rate, I chose 22050 as my sample rate and now the entire 4 hour mix is exporting. I guess that's what I wanted, but what does the sample rate do to a completed .als audio file when converted into a .wave/.aiff file?

1/2 length is just that.. half the length of your track. Not half sample rate.

Or why not add a new empty track, set it to resample - or send your mix as a group to it - hit record then come back 3hrz later?

You have to select the time range you want to export in the arrangement window. I always set the loop brace to the area I want to export then click on it. When you go to the export dialogue it will automatically default to export the selected range.

This is not a good ideas as it will limit your High frequency response 10KHz. Like putting everything through a 10KHz low pass filter.

I did this. The loop brace is set from 1.1.1 to 7223.1.1. But is this range not to large for Ableton to export to .wav?

The brace is what you need to adjust to get half the length.

Very well. Now I got that part right, rendered the entire 4 hour mix into two 44100 .wav tracks, after rendering one from 1.1.1-3201.1.1 and the other from 3201.1.1-7223.1.1.

Now, what is a simple audio editor I can use to fuse both tracks?

Double the tempo or *4 then export.
Open it in a audio editor and process (Timestretch) to get the original tempo.

Joining 2 wavs or handling massive files is not something I've ever tried, so I can't say for sure.

Looking around the web it looks like support for wav files greater than 2GB is patchy at best. Theoretical maximum is 4GB but a lot of programs seem to be restricted to 2GB.

Your best solution might be to convert the files to mp3 first and then use an mp3 file editor to join them together. But I've no experience of handling such large files, so you'll need to google it I'm afraid, unless omeone else here as any ideas.

this seems like an incredibly stupid limitation considering how many dj's are using live and there are many of them doing sets for 4+ hours.

I am sure that the limitation is there just because they feel like being bastards.
