difference between sidechaining Gate and sidechaining Comp

Post by Monchai » Wed Nov 09, 2011 7:31 am

guys,
Have anyone use sidechaining Gate and sidechaining Compressor in your tracks (not the same track), what's the audio result difference beside that SC Gate will open up volume when input audio from the other track trigger the threshold. Flip option in Gate will do identical job with SC Comp right? Any other way to make use of SC Gate musically, on vocal maybe.
thanks

side chain comp has filter options? never actually used the flip option on gate for side chaining. when/why would you use it in preference to side chain compression?

Say for example you're using a typical 4x4 kick beat as your sidechain input for pad..... with sidechaining Gate you'd hear the pad ON the beat, with sidechaining Comp you'd hear the pad OFF the beat.

yeah.. of course, but what about if you use the flip option on the gate... so it is like a crude sc - compressor - that's what the op is getting at....
