McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller
Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller
wow, these guys gonna hit 100grand before the deadline- not bad....i suppose we can assume it wont turn vaporware at this point
200 for the first run is good but i wonder what the street price's gonna be, im assuming closer to 300?? i like the features it has but i've never played with anything 'soft touch' and although i can't agree with matt black's comment "...it looks gorgeous" this could have potential.
those colors though......

A fellow from KMI said that the street would be $200.rekloos wrote:i wonder what the street price's gonna be, im assuming closer to 300??
Matt Hettich wrote:$200 is the street price. $200 will get you a QuNeo.

Hi,
The LEDs on the pads will be programmable. The sliders are set, though remote control will be allowed, if you'd like to turn them off... In my opinion, the QuNeo looks great next to my launchpad...
The pads are something we're spending a lot of time on. They'll feel great... We're testing pads on popular pad controllers and coming up with ours as we find pros and cons.
We'd love it if you kept sharing the project.
Thanks
Matt @ KMI

As usual I'm impressed by what I hear. Thanks as always for responding to us, Matt
Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller
Am I the only one who is afraid one pad will be way too small to control cc's or to control 4 different sounds on the edges? I mean looking at the pictures/vids the squared pads can't be much larger than a Maschine/MPC and I don't see myself sliding the edges of those pads to control my cutoff for example. Let alone using that circle for looping.
Even if you just compare the finger on one pad you see it will be very difficult to get smooth control as the touch surface of your finger will be too large for small changes.
Hope I'm wrong though, it's really good to see new ideas into cheap controllers!

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller
I don't think one can ever get super fine control with any device constrained to such little physical motion.
I think where it'll be really useful is either in faux-generative effects, where the somewhat random but constrained information coming from the force pads is used to make slightly unpredictable effects, or for things like quick expressive control over drums - trigger drums with some pads, flex fingers to do a quick filter sweep or something. Not a lot of precision required, just enough to be interesting.
Obviously I'll be thrilled if it's better than this of course, but this is what I'm signing up for :D

Hi,
Our sensors are high resolution and we're constantly considering ways to make QuNeo more and more playable!
Despite initial concerns, I've found playing the corners of the pads surprisingly enjoyable. Unlike other pad controllers, I can tap out full drum beats using just a few fingers on one hand, while controlling fx and the like with my other hand...
QuNeo is small, but it also contains new ways of interacting with gear-- ways we feel will allow for more dynamic and expressive control. As in any other musical instrument, subtleties will most likely require practice!
We're doing everything in our power to make QuNeo the best pad based midi controller on the market! We hope it sets a new standard for flexible and expressive electronic musicality! We're excited to hear what everyone does with it!
Thanks,
Matt

Lovely, and coinciding with the holidays.
Would be great to hear that music coming out the mouths of carolers:P

XY coordinates, pressure sensitive and actually responding to corner taps... I think I just had an OSCgasm

Hey!
It's getting so close! QuNeo is coming together very nicely! I saw the video of the first assembled prototype was posted here and I just wanted to ask everyone to share the kickstarter page with their friends one more time! We're a small company and everything we can get to develop the QuNeo would help us greatly...

We'll be at NAMM is anyone is there & I'd be glad to show the QuNeo off and answer questions if you stop by our booth!
Thanks,
Matt @ KMI

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller
Congratulations on all the success!
Something just came to mind while I was looking at the QuNeo.
Do you think it would be possible ( via a software "middle-man probably) to switch modes?
Here's what I'm thinking and it's very simple but multplies the use:
Let's say I have all my cc's set for each control, though 1 control would be used as a "Mode" switch.
As an example, all I'd want to do is switch the midi channel but the cc's stay the same (but they still switch to the next midi channel), so I'd have 16x the CC's. That way one mode I could set my controls to use as a control surface, another mode can be used for drums, another mode for fx controls, etc.
It would be like having Scenes on the PadKontrol.

Hi,
Yes, this will be possible. We've been thinking that this would be a very useful way to use QuNeo.
The blue button in the upper left hand corner is the MODE button. This will be used to switch modes and presets. In Modes, you'll have presets, which will resemble banks on the AKAI stuff, or Scenes on the PadKontrol.
This way, QuNeo can be used to control multiple layers of a live set, or for multiple uses in the studio!
Cool,
Hope that answers the question!

Thanks, yeah I just noticed a more in depth answers at Update #3 & #8.
I'm looking forward to seeing what can be done with the kit and API.
Props to Keith and the QuNeo team:)
