I'm assuming you mean Kontakt, not Komplete? Comparing one sampler against everything in Komplete seems silly....

anyway though, what do you like about MachFive over Kontakt, specifically?

yea silly me i meant Kontakt
i have version 3,4 and 5
my impression is the range of instruments didn't really
change from versions and i really didn't notice any
change in sound quality

machfive's samples sounded a lot better in terms
of realistic sounding instruments
there is a 8 gig sample of a piano that's amazing
they did a couple of things worth noting
the samples are on 6 DVD's
each DVD has just 1 file on it
that one DVD contains the samples for one or more
instruments
i have no problem with this but it means you probably
cant use the samples on a different sampler

i am a preset person not the kind that likes to tweak stuff
so i have not played with the engine

all the samples are different than what came out with
machfive 2 i think this was really great
the choice of material in ver 3 include a DVD
labeled universal loops and instruments that has a lot
of loops that would fit in perfectly with electronic
music making

now i don't own the latest version of kontakt
so i dont know what samples it came with
hopefully not a repeat of previous editions

i really think machfive was a better choice for me anyways

it does require a dongle

i should mention i do own ikmultimedia's samplers
and i think that was the worst way to spend my money

thanks for the info. and you're right, kontakt's library barely changes with each update. in the new version 5, it didn't change at all, they just threw in a bonus "retro machines II" which itself was just an update to content already included in the version 4 library. pretty annoying, especially since some of the material in Kontakt is started to sound pretty...uninspired. but that's a totally personal judgement. once I bought Omnisphere I started using Kontakt a lot less.

and as for IKmultimedia products....ickkkkk....yeah. not good stuff
