Interesting move by Apple:

Not sure if it will be sustainable to continue with the pricing scheme Ableton currently has in light of pretty much everyone slashing prices for their DAW's.

It means Logic X (10) is around the corner. Companies always lower the price, or do some (apparently) amazing deal just before the release of the next version. I wouldn't be surprised if Logic X is released shortly after the new year.

Now that many daw's are being sold via download they should get alot cheaper. Since we are buying directly from the seller now it should allow for much cheaper products since they don't have to pay a middle man, packaging, etc. That and if prices are too high people are just going to go get cracks.

Think about it. $524 for the download of suite with the 25% discount + MFL 187 if a pretty high price at this point in the market. They should do what pros did and just combine MFL and Live and offer a dirt cheap upgrade for those who bought MFL when it first came out

$199 makes a huge difference for those looking to get one or the other.

But I'm happy with live and the only thing I want is 64 bit and MFL included and I'd be happy to fork over some more cash

Honestly, no one can compete with Apple's pricing. That price is heavily subsidized by hardware sales. Still, it doesn't get you away from having to demonstrate to the (potential) customer why your software is worth the extra monies.

"19GB of optional content available via in-app download." It's not clear to me that the extra content is free???

Mainstage is not included, it's an additional $30.

I predicted previously this price dorp as same as the price drop of the FCPX.

It came as a logical consequence.
I don't know X will come though.

That is pretty amazing. I'm still not clear - do you have to get Mainstage to get the content?

Take it back, Apple is really good about that kind of stuff and will likely refund you.

For those that are curious, all the content from before is still included for free, it's available to download via an in app menu now is all.
