it means it's more a modular live perfoming oriented / experimental studio environment than a classical linear multitrack daw.
there is no interest getting usine if you wanna just rec 16 raw wav tracks of your band. logic, cubase, pt or live will do a better job for that.
for everything else, usine got a modularity no daw on earth can match, exept maybe live+m4L, but you don't get many thing such as surround, osc, video tracking, vst export, customizable multitouch interfaces ect with live+mfl wich is also much, much more pricey.
