each sample is usually 16, 24 or 32 bits long (these lengths are all multiples of a byte, which is 8 bits). it's also quite common nowadays for internal sampling (e.g. within a DAW or plug-in) to be done at 64 bit to minimise artifacts during processing.Rabalder wrote: Exactly what are the facts you need to know in order to find out how long 1 bit is???
however, whatever the bit depth of each sample, the whole sample is processed at once, so the question of "how long 1 bit is?" is misguided.
you can take sampling to the extreme where each sample is only 1 bit long, and a very high sample rate is used (look up Direct Stream Digital)...
