I was hoping it would help with confirming the detection of the higgs boson.

Not at all. I've used at various times over the years various DAWs, Reason, Logic, Digital Performer, Renoise etc. A DAW is just a tool, and although I like Live, if another tool works better for the job I'll use it. In fact at this point I don't immediately upgrade to the latest version of a DAW just so I'm not waiting for stuff to work right to make music.

Brand loyalty unless your invested financially in a company is a setup for disappointment.

Seriously, Live is not a tool just like a "regular" DAW would be. It's primarily an instrument IMHO (which can thereafter be considered/used as a tool). And it's really hard to leave an instrument we love.

There was this band Raq, who was intensely influenced by Phish and the Disco Biscuits, to the point of copying some of their schtick (vocal jams, obscure Zappa covers, inverted song structures, etc.)

They were objectively better than both bands - better vocals, better instrumentalists, more precise players, more complicated arrangements, etc. - but they still just didn't have that spark of authenticity and self-inspired fire-in-the-belly that comes with a band doing their own thing

LOLOL. Very random reference, would not expect most people on this board to know RAQ. Are you/were you a jam band fan? Not too many of us around here.

Haha, yeah I knew it was not going to be understood by most of the folks here but figured it was as apt a comparison as I could make

I was a huuuge jamband fan in high school and college. Phish, moe., the Disco Biscuits, all of it. Seen hundreds of shows over the years.

Not as much anymore, but every now and again I have throw on some Biscuits and rock out. They were actually my first experience with electronic music, and when I'm in the mood, nothing satisfies me better.

Awesome. I was way into Phish in the '00s, and that got me into the Biscuits, who I still love a lot 100+ shows later. Going to see them at Red Rocks in about a month actually. They were doing some really cool stuff with Ableton for a while in 2009-2010, I was always surprised Abes didn't do a blog post about them and how they use it, seems right up their alley.
