so im sure this is all possible without samples or vst
i want to create various blips and bleeps to add riffs or arps to my music, the kind of thing
that adds a little groove to a house track,
also some nice synth chords, all of the vst i have are large impressive soundscapes, i just want something simple i can create some chords with,
tried to find some tutorials for this on youtube but didnt really find what i was after, i realise synthesis is a bit of a mind field, but i think i need some grasp to help me with music,

good example 3.52
or this synth sound and stab from this track 1,

be good to look at more synth sounds and not be scared off by programming

imo
for now, start with presets, tweak to taste...look closely at how they are set up...then start from scratch knobfiddling...

For stabs it's all about short envelopes on all oscillators.
If you want things to sound smooth use easily divisible harmonics 0.5 1 2 4 etc the less divisible the number the more inharmonic your resulting sound will be.
If you want just smooth chords then use the above but with bigger envelopes. Probably in the "box" oscillator position so you can get two modulated oscillators on the go.
My two penneth anyway

Re: total novice to operator
and you just set up any osc ? with a short envelope? then mess with the settings to get the sound you want?

Re: total novice to operator
You could also use good old Auto Filter for stabs, just automate the freq to get something moving.
