to be clear, I wasn't saying there were no situations where backups were important, just giving an alternative for some situations....pepezabala wrote:that's right, but what is with the 100 + hours I spent on building a liveset for this theatre production? I can recall lots of ideas, but it would be a big hassle to recreate them at the day of the show if someone stole my laptop...bartend7 wrote:Forge. wrote:just to counter BTW - one thing I have learned over the years is that in terms of my original music the good stuff is the stuff that can be recreated because it is not totally reliant on all the things you can save in a project.
in other words, good songs could be played on a shitty ukelele if needs be.
I'm less concerned these days about saving every stupid little idea I have, because a fair percentage of them are bollocks anyway. The really good ones can all be played on the guitar. But even the ones that are purely electronic usually are based around a couple of good ideas that can be recreated.
deep. excellent point
shit, I have to do a backup of this project, last backup is from december ....
It's back up your projects day

I'm relatively new to trolling this forum, and this post is a winner.
Thanks for the reminder. I suck at backing up, and have indeed lost some of my older stuff.

or the world is going under and will destroy my backupRave wrote:Until the nas breaks or the fact that the backup is not verifiedEvengy wrote:i have a nas where i back up my datas automatically. there is no need to spend any thoughts about loosing datas
i do a backup on my nas with 2 hdd's (no raid). backup on 1 hdd and the nas does a copyjob to hdd2. to destroy my data, 3 hdds must crash at the same time. if the case will come its bad luck. but every backup is better than nothing
€: i backup every file and dont't using image technology because of the risk that the image is corrupt
Re: It's back up your projects day
But do u test it? U will never know if u don't.

Muffin's been lazy, so I'm bumpin' this bia in loving memory of a corrupt backup drive having lost the project for one of my favorite tracks I've made, and wishing I could do the mix and master stages over. It really sucks when you think your backup is solid, and then you format your main machine, because you have your solid backup -- only to find out you're effed.

Re: It's back up your projects day
I usually run backups on Sunday, but I suppose I'll go a day early.
Re: It's back up your projects day
My gigantic backup file is a jaw-dropping size of 313 kb.
Could've used a floppy disc.
6 years work inside a tiiiiiiiny keychain usb device.
Seems quite silly actually..

Time Machine backs mine up all the time the HDD is plugged in. So I'm always totally safe... as long as my wife doesn't have a worse fire than last time...
Re: It's back up your projects day
HAHA! Yeah, hear you there. I have so many ideas started and 3/4 developed... meh! But trust me you don't want to lose them. We need to just go on an "Arrangement View-Only-Bender" for a few weeks...er...months.simmerdown wrote:i wish all my shit would just get washed away, that would unburden me of finishing them
Thanks for the reminder, muffin. Enjoy Prague. I miss that city!
