just to counter BTW - one thing I have learned over the years is that in terms of my original music the good stuff is the stuff that can be recreated because it is not totally reliant on all the things you can save in a project.

in other words, good songs could be played on a shitty ukelele if needs be.

I'm less concerned these days about saving every stupid little idea I have, because a fair percentage of them are bollocks anyway. The really good ones can all be played on the guitar. But even the ones that are purely electronic usually are based around a couple of good ideas that can be recreated.

that's right, but what is with the 100 + hours I spent on building a liveset for this theatre production? I can recall lots of ideas, but it would be a big hassle to recreate them at the day of the show if someone stole my laptop...

shit, I have to do a backup of this project, last backup is from december ....

to be clear, I wasn't saying there were no situations where backups were important, just giving an alternative for some situations....

or the world is going under and will destroy my backup
i do a backup on my nas with 2 hdd's (no raid). backup on 1 hdd and the nas does a copyjob to hdd2. to destroy my data, 3 hdds must crash at the same time. if the case will come its bad luck. but every backup is better than nothing

€: i backup every file and dont't using image technology because of the risk that the image is corrupt

Muffin's been lazy, so I'm bumpin' this bia in loving memory of a corrupt backup drive having lost the project for one of my favorite tracks I've made, and wishing I could do the mix and master stages over. It really sucks when you think your backup is solid, and then you format your main machine, because you have your solid backup -- only to find out you're effed.
