Somewhat Disappointed with ProjectSam Orchestra

For the price paid, the sounds are way too few.

The good news? I like the sounds enough to buy ProjectSAM Orchestral Essentials.

The problem? I just spent $100 on 31 presets.

How to solve this? Provide me with a coupon code for $100 if I buy Orchestral Essentials or any other product direct from ProjectSam.

Could you be more specific about what was in the package you bought.

31 presets ?

Was "one preset" many multisamples spread across the keyboard with added effects.

31 presets being 31 different orchestral sounds with each individual preset having multi samples and effects ?

Sorry to hear it's disappointing. I was VERY tempted by this- as I've had my eye on projectSAM for a long while. The Orchestral Essentials price tag is just hefty enough that I haven't bought it on an impulse- the Ableton version is definitely in impulse purchase territory- though I was very concerned about depth and breadth of the Ableton version. 900 MB @ $100 vs 12 GB @ $450. That's 9 MB per dollar vs 27.3 MB per dollar. A no-brainer decision for which is the better value.

I'd love to know more of your thoughts about it though- what was good, what was bad, how flexible was it, how easy is it to get realistic natural sounding tracks from it- does it integrate seemlessly into the Ableton workflow? Though it sounds like I'm going to be saving my money for the projectSAM OE.

I got yesterday.

I'm not an expert but for $99 it's worth, at least for me.

Don't judge for the size, samples are the same quality of any other ProjectSam product. Sometimes less os more, I'm sure you can make good tracks with this.

I didn't mean to imply they aren't good- I'd love to hear a bit more about what they are like in use (wish there was a demo, like some other ableton add-ons)

i think the question here is what articulations is missing in the live version vs the orinigal package. as stated, 12gb vs 900mb is quite the difference.

but i'm not surprised. the other ableton addon instruments etc are quite sloppily made and more of a novelty than actually useful.

imo.

Any answers to this first question:

Could you be more specific about what was in the package you bought.

31 presets ?

Was "one preset" many multisamples spread across the keyboard with added effects.

31 presets being 31 different orchestral sounds with each individual preset having multi samples and effects ?

One preset is one sound with with effects.
There are 8 mappable parameters on the "macro device."

I got it yesterday and I'm pretty satisfied, though more content would be welcome.

There is a brass section a woodwind section and a string section.

Each patch is not just one instrument - eg the string section has basses, cellos, violas and violins covering their appropriate registers.

For each section there are
- various multi-sampled patches representing different articulations and registers
- one patch with all the different articulations on a chain selector and
- one FX patch which contains a number of individual twiddly bits mapped to different keys.

There are no solo instruments.

This is what you get :-

The example tracks on the website are misleading IMO because they contain sounds that don't come from the product. particularly the orchestral percussion on the last example which people might reasonably expect to be included.

I've heard the samples for NI's Session Strings -it's $119- and this collection blows it out of the water.

Totally worth the price.

how does the 'woodwind-staccato perc'? and the 'string low ensemble - piano'? are they 'mixed', and so inseperable, or can they be played separately somewhat?
