Hey Guys, I’m looking for a new MIDI controller to use with live 8, for both, studio and live performance.
I’m checking 3 different ones.

Axiom Pro 61 - Novation Impulse or Roland A 500 Pro.

I appreciate any feedback

Thanks
League

The Impulse is plasticky and feels like a toy. The playing action is okay, but the sliders and knobs are like something off a $50 Wal-Mart keyboard

The Axiom Pros are pretty nice, although I feel like they're too pricy for what you get

Haven't tried the Roland myself

Thanks, this isn't the first time I hear bad things about the impulse. It looks great on internet. Too bad.

Yeah, I was really excited when it was announced and it had such sweet first-party integration with Live

Then they had a demo unit on the floor at Guitar Center, and my heart sank as I felt how flimsy all the controls are

It's weird that for how high Novation's build quality is otherwise, they completely shit the bed on the Impulse rotaries/faders

maybe add the new Akai Max 49 to your list of models to check out.
looks pretty good on paper. no idea what it's like to use but i'm interested in those touch faders with built in note/cc/cv sequencers...

The akai looks sexy! I'll try to see a video review online...
I still love the Roland's mod wheel little handle but the Axiom excite me too, especially the interaction with live 8.

Thanks

I have an MPK49 right now, and the MAX49 looks like a super sexy step up

I just hope they've fixed the pads and that I can get a decent trade-in value at GC with the MPK. Would be nice if they've improved the action a little, but that's not a huge deal.

$499 is aaawwfully steep for just a MIDI controller though, especially one with mediocre pads
