using screenflow - exporting in lion - read this

Post by buzby » Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:12 pm

if you are using screenflow and trying to export to lossless or web high pass then have a read of this thread i posted on the telestream forum

http://forum.telestream.net/forum/messa ... TARTPAGE=1

i contacted telestream tech support (replied super quick)

they sent me a link ...

http://Pondini.org/TM/30.html

i dont like the sound of this bit ....

Be extremely careful when using Terminal. It is a direct command-line interface into UNIX, the underpinning of OSX. Unlike the Finder, there are few protections against making a mistake, which can cause untold damage.

tech support at telestream could nt tell me what this untold damage is so i ll be contacting apple to find out what it is

cheers

Holy crap, thanks so much. I can't believe they get away with this sort of BS, especially in 2012!!

I'm confused. I read both of those links, and didn't see the relation between the two.

Though I will admit I've had a lot of issues with screen flow and lion myself, very unstable.

There isn't, there's also absolutely nothing to do with Live or Ableton either.

I'm going to start posting random dinner recipes and tech issues I have with my Motu gear in a few days.

Eggplant in Yoghurt Gravy
(Dahi Baingan Kashmiri)

Serves: 4
Cooking time (approx.): 8 minutes
Style: North Indian Vegetarian (Kashmiri)

4 big eggplants cut into roundels (thick slices)
2 cups(s) yoghurt
1 tablespoon(s) fennel seed powder (saunf)
½ teaspoon(s) each of asafoetida and turmeric powders
2 teaspoon(s) each of red chilli and ginger powders
4 green cardamoms
2 tablespoon(s) oil
salt to taste
oil to deep fry
finely chopped fresh coriander to garnish
Wash the eggplant roundels, pat dry and deep fry in hot oil till light brown in color. Drain on an absorbent paper. Beat the yoghurt along with salt till smooth.
Heat the oil in a heavy-bottomed pan on medium level and drop in the green cardamoms and asafoetida. Fry briefly and add the yoghurt quickly. Mix in the spice powders. Cook on medium level for about 4 minutes.
Add the fried eggplant roundels, cover and cook on low level for about 4 minutes.
Garnish with chopped fresh coriander.
TIP:

To cut down on calories, try grilling the eggplant roundels brushed with a little oil instead of deep frying them.
Serve hot with: Rice with Dried Mushrooms (Kanegach Pulav), white rice or Indian bread (Roti, Chapati, Pooris).
Serving tip: Take one Bollywood soundtrack, add a Pussycat Doll and a heap of new instruments, and you have a recipe for a big mix.

mmmmm - sounds delicious

yeah sorry guys - it should ve have gone in the lounge - i think as i ve been making video tuts of ableton using screenflow i did nt think too much… - can the author of a thread move them or does a moderator have do it ?

anyways - tarekith - the connection between the two is that if you are trying to export to lossless or web high from screenflow then there is a conflict between screenflow and timemachine's snapshot function - it effects quicktime media based applications (dont know if this has implications for ableton as it is using quicktime) … yeah .. there;s the ableton connection - quit with the recipes ;)

so - to disable this and to be able to export from screenflow with no issues it means going into Terminal - disabling snapshots and as it says on that second thread - "there are few protections against making a mistake, which can cause untold damage"

screenflow have notified apple and that's as much as they can do - im gonna try to find out more from apple today

and it might have something to do with the exporting problem i ve been having from ableton - see in the first part of this thread

http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=177436

spoke to apple - apparently the only damage that might be done is that by disabling snapshots there might be a problem with recovering certain snapshot files at a later time

- explained my problem with exporting from ableton - the guy i spoke to will forward the enquiry to one of his senior colleagues in tech support

got a call back from apple saying that it is basically telestream's issue to make screenflow compatible with the mac operating system and not their problem - telestream are saying its mac's problem

the guy from apple did not recommend going into terminal unless i was sure of what i was doing and that it is possible by disabling snapshots that it could effect time machine

That's just a reasonable general warning, not to play around with Terminal if you don't know what you do. You could for example erase your whole HD with just one (or a minimally mistyped) command...

Pondini knows his shit. So if you follow his procedure with copy & paste, you should be fine me thinks.

Before doing anything, be sure you have a working backup anyway...
