Advanced midi chorder?

Post by Mr D » Wed Mar 07, 2012 4:43 pm

I remember in Cubase there's a pretty fancy tool that let's you map several different chords to various single keys on your keyboard (useful for triggering chords when you're no Rachmaninov!). The chord tool in Ableton seems a bit basic by comparison (only a single chord can be set). Are then any other options open to me? Any third party midi plugins?

Thanks! ....... Mr D.

thats what I was thinking, just make a midi effects rack to select chords you want to play.

rename it preferably with a unique name you can identify...
and then save it to the library..

read up on the library (and midi devices) in the manual..
in fact...you can read the whole thing..

Another way to do it is to create a lot of MIDI clips containing the different chords and use the MIDI mapping function to map them to the keyboard. - Only useful if you are playing live on an external keyboard of course.

Also you might like this -> http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=177373
which is a different concept, but might be useful to you.

Thanks for the tip! If i do this, is it not possible to record my midi keyboard triggerings of these clips on a track in the arrange window?

Sorry if this is a dumbass question, i'm new to Ableton!

You could record the result to the arrangement or route the MIDI to another track in session view for recording.

Thanks.........i've got this working, but not quite.

I've got each chord in its own clip and have assigned each one to a midi note on my keyboard. I can record my one-note chords to the midi track. But i don't seem able to quantize it. How do i select all clips and quantize them (i don't mean quantize the midi inside each clip, i mean quantize the start point of each clip)?

I thought of making another midi track, and routing that to the track with the clips, but that doesn't seem to work.

Thanks!

numerology by five12 has a very, very advanced midi chord sequencer
numerology + launchpad within live is so good i can't get over it

have been trying to tell people that numerology will revolutionize their music writing and live performing but no one seem to get it

came here to recommend this rack, but you found it! Sweet. I made that rack and a few others that are useful which are on my youtube channel. There's an inversion rack and a set with all the chords mapped out, check out the ableton playlist. I love this useful and free midi racks! lots of mileage, good results.
