Sampling and MIDI on same controller?
Fairly fluent in Logic; just got Live like an hour ago.
I'm looking to use a keytar (yes) live, to be able to use AL to both play wav samples (either one shot sound effects, or pitched across the keyboard) AND software instruments for synth leads. Is it possible to map a keyboard out to be able to do both? One or the other seems easy enough; both in one patch seems tricky.
for example: C1 through C2 = a square tone from AL's (or some other audio unit's) library, and C#2, D2, and D#3 are little sound effects to be triggered. Possible?

Easily possible. You can map different kinds of things over the range of your keyboard. On top of that, you could create multiples of keyboard mappings and switch through them if you wanted to.
Like if you have 49 keys and you map 32 samples and 17 intruments for one rack, then you do the same thing but it's 40 samples and 9 instruments...you could make tons of these different racks and chain them together, then scroll through them, so you aren't limited to 49 keys, as long as you keep a knob or slider free to scroll through them.
Oh and you can keep each sample spread over the keyboard chromatically and still switch through samples or you could set a different sample per key. You can also set a different sample for velocity.
Try the demo and dig into the instrument racks and it's chains.

keytar cool ... concerning your question: you should check out the manual chapters about instrument racks. especially about keyrange- and chainselectors. and of course you can map the start buttons of individual session clips to midi notes.vanjessica wrote: I'm looking to use a keytar (yes) live,
and btw. what kind of keytar do you use? is it a midi keytar? i didn`t know that omething like this exists. please post a video of your performance as soon as you have one

Re: Sampling and MIDI on same controller?
if playing and triggering are not at the same time, why not just change MIDI channel (ch 1 forced mapped to clips, ch2 to a sampler, channel 3 to a lead synth and so on)?

they are within the same song, and in some cases at the same time. still getting used to two hands on the keytar. gotta wear the strap low.
