Upgrade to Ableton 8 or wait?
Re: Upgrade to Ableton 8 or wait?
Yep. Live 8 has most of the things I want to make music and play live. The features that are missing... Session automation being the big one are probably substantial recodes. Judging by the carnage created by the opening of the api up to max I wouldn't want to upgrade to live 9 for a while after it was released.... Or alternatively live 9 is live 8 with a built autotuner, timestretching in sampler, 64 bit ram use and two or three other obvious bits of window dressing. In which case it'll be fine, but not a particularly compelling upgrade.

groove engine. The groove engine is awesome.
Re: Upgrade to Ableton 8 or wait?
Of course, Max for Live.. How could I forget the infinite awesomeness that is M4L.
Nothing else gives you that kind of flexibility.

Hey guys,
thanks for the replies. I've tried version 8 and I must say that its well above 7 in terms of features - especially those that speed workflow such as groups. Also "Slice to A new Midi track" doesn't work with simpler, it requires sampler, and the extract grooves is something that is great and also missing in 7. I also played around with sampler and its very fast and intuitive, so if I am upgrading I will be getting the Suite version.
There's other features and effects that I liked also but I am still on the fence if I should upgrade. If Ableton would just let us know i.e. "not before 2013" I would upgrade instantly.

Re: Upgrade to Ableton 8 or wait?
the answer to that question is answered MANY times a week with people constantly making the same Live 9 threads over and over and Ableton not commenting on any of them.reso19khz wrote:If Ableton would just let us know i.e. "not before 2013" I would upgrade instantly.
THEY'RE NOT SAYING WHEN IT WILL BE RELEASED. ASKING THEM TO SAY WHETHER OR NOT IT WILL BE RELEASED SOON WILL NOT GET YOU AN ANSWER. YOU HAVE AN ANSWER, IT'S NO. THE ANSWER IS NO. NO.

i see that german is not your strong side.
it's ok. you have a vocoder, so you can make robot sounds instead.

Re: Upgrade to Ableton 8 or wait?
No, it does not, it only requires Simpler. Otherwise only Suite owners would be able to slice to midi, which is not the case.reso19khz wrote:H"Slice to A new Midi track" doesn't work with simpler, it requires sampler

Yes, my bad about that one.antarktika wrote: No, it does not, it only requires Simpler. Otherwise only Suite owners would be able to slice to midi, which is not the case.

Reviving this dead thread rather than making a new one..
I've been working on Live 7 suite for the last 4 years and I'm finally thinking of biting the bullet and upgrading to Live 8 suite now that 64 bit compatability is on the way.
Can anyone confirm how stable the most recent version of Live 8 is? I saw the sh1tstorm of complaints when 8 came out initially - is it now a mature product? I'll be running it on a 64 bit i5 / Win7 laptop.
Cheers

If I were upgrading from Live 7 right now to 64bit Live 8, I would be really happy about it.wascal wrote:Can anyone confirm how stable the most recent version of Live 8 is?
But I rarely use Live professionally, I just make music at home to perform with my Band.
The latest version Live 64bit is in beta, there are bugs, and some strangeness.
Having been on Live 8 since it's released, I'm really desensitized to buggy behavior.
Nevertheless, I'd say it running great for me right now.
