Don't know, if it helps, may at least do so for uncompressed input files: Import / Export Preferences - Audacity Manual, try and toggle the settings for importing uncompressed files.

Hermanus has it right though, what can be done in an external sample editor to an internal sample that you can't just do directly in Live? Just curious.
