Tarekith wrote:$40 is a lot of money for fairly basic DJ app. I dont know why but I think the idea od iPad DJing and using the iPhone for cueing is kind of cool (I use djay for messing around at home sometimes). But that's a lot of cash when you can't even try it first.
I like the sound of that feature too. djay is good for messing around, one of the things that makes it kinda ass is how you have to split the stereo in order to queue. More of an ios limitation than a software limitation tho.

Tarekeith have you tried Meta DJ? That one is tons of fun. I think it might be half price at the moment ($10)

Sure, you could spend thousands of dollars on gear, and lug around records, turntables, and mixers.

Or, you could spend $40 and fire up Mashup, a complete mobile DJ booth, with professional precision EQ and analog-style resonant filters, Vinyl Touch glitch-free scratching, and independent time-stretch and pitch-shift for each of its two stereo decks.

I for one think the choice is pretty clear here.

Well, if you actually have a full hardware rig, it is also pretty clear..

All the clubs have mixers and decks already. So we dont need to lug around those.. And thats why we dont need internal EQs in the DJ app. All "we" or at least me needs is a pro DJ/player app that actually works as a full blown CDJ or vinyl deck, without having to scroll menues. Dont know why the hell they think its logical to cram a whole DJ rig into a tiny iPhone(!). Come on, thats a toy! And the iPad screen is really not that big either. But 1 ipad is cheaper then 1 Pioneer CDJ or a pro DJ Vinyl deck. So if the DJ is serious the obvious thing would be to get two iPads!!

Where is the "pro" DJ Apps? :?

Read a review of this the other day and they totally slammed it. Said that is uses some kind of weird 'beat grid' that doesn't work properly and the 2 tracks they supply with it don't even stay synced up for very long. Can't find the review right now but it sounds like it's a massive waste of money.

I was being sarcastic, I copied that from their press release..

However, *your* point is well-taken. How about an app that's just one bad-ass single deck?

Hahah, bummer. My bad! :P

Yeah.. I hope something will show up, because I kind of need it. Well, theres nothing wrong with burning cds,
but optionally it would be nice to use these devices as single players and nothing more. I prefer bringing cds over
laptops to 95% of the gigs I only DJ at. I see those guys that play only occationally tend to bring a laptop setup.
Doesnt look like their having any fun.. (joke) But most of those pro* guys playing frequently that I know of
play either cds, vinyls or a combo.

*pro as in performing regularly and getting payed for it.

I'm pretty sure that was me. Here it is...
I'm shocked at this review, because my experience with this app is awful. And part of my job REQUIRES me to know DJ software in depth, so I'm extremely aware of what's available and how things are supposed to work. Here are some of my observations...

* The biggest issue is that the BPM analysis is not at all accurate. Because of that, all kinds of other things break, like...
* LOOPING. Notice how they don't show off the looping in the demo video? Yeah, because then you would see this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plAbRy1OtdE
* The sync engine is terrible. Songs rarely line up - even when you use the "stock" tracks. Why is this important? Because...
* There is no fine or temporary control of pitch. No fine adjustment, nudge buttons, or platter dragging.
* The app brings an iPad3 to it's knees, with a horribly laggy interface.
* The iPhone wireless cue link goes out of sync easily and often, and there's no going back once it's broken.
* No nudge buttons, but easily 8 different ways to get to the same browser window.
* The Waves filter effect (single "effect") can not be multi-touched (it goes wonky if you try).

So why am I taking time to bag on a terrible iPad DJ app when there are plenty of them out there that are just as bad? Because this one has the WAVES name associated with it, and because it's FOURTY DOLLARS. That's right, $40 USD. And the Waves add-on is another $5. These 2 factors might make you think that this app is a serious contender, but it isn't. There are tons of really great and fun to use apps available that cost a quarter of Mashup and are light-years better.
