Ableton Live is still awesome
Just a thread to say that Live is still awesome.
The program definitely has its flaws (for me n1 is no correct comping).
But I've been around at some friend's places, and they all use different DAWs, such as Logic, reason, cubase. And every time I am astonished by how SLOW and PAINFUL it is to create a song with those DAWs !
In live with the APC, whatever my source is (audio, midi keyboard, maschine, iPad), I can record lots of different pattern without touching the mouse ! In a matter of seconds, I create macro group so I can control up to 8 effects on my chain.
I lay down an arrangement without even thinking about it, while jamming. I copy, paste, duplicate ultra quickly with awesome live grid.
I got sample loops correctly in time.
Warp makers are amazing. And it's easy to deactivate it as well.
And lots of easy stuff like those
All in all, everything is ultra fast. I'm looking forward to check Live 9 or whatever it is called to see how Ableton can perfect it.
PS : ok ableton, I've done it, now where's my money?

I have to agree. Ableton Live is the most awesome platform for quickly getting tunes to nearly finished that exists in the market today.

Is that an observation on the application or the user?beatmunga wrote:I have to agree. Ableton Live is the most awesome platform for quickly getting tunes to nearly finished that exists in the market today.

What does no correct comping mean? I'm new to Ableton so I'm interested to understand what that is. thanks. The Carpet Cleaner wrote:no correct comping.

comping in a DAW refers to building a composite track from a number of separate takes. e.g. it is common practice to record the same vocal or guitar line several times, and then comp together the best bits.Darkstar2010 wrote:What does no correct comping mean? unlike most other DAWs, Live doesn't provide any specific tools for doing this.

Just had my first run-in with Live's quaint little automation timing issues...
Not awesome at all.
Not awesome at all.

Re: Ableton Live is still awesome
I have been a fan for years.
I am begining to hate it now.
It crashes all the time.
Its slow.
I can only use 2 gigs of ram.
Funny timing as I was just looking at getting Logic pro 9 - thought i'd come here and take a look to see if live 9 had been announced first....
I'll still do layouts and rhythms in Ableton but its crap for mixing big projects...

I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

Nothing to see here - move along!

There are no tools for it yet, but the basis of the feature is already there.fishmonkey wrote:comping in a DAW refers to building a composite track from a number of separate takes. e.g. it is common practice to record the same vocal or guitar line several times, and then comp together the best bits.Darkstar2010 wrote:What does no correct comping mean? If you record into a loop in Arrangement view, each pass will be a new one. It keeps writing to the same Clip, but it moves the start/end point with each new pass.
Nothing as fancy as in Logic or Pro Tools, but that is largely due to the graphics of Live.
The equivalent to Logic comping in Live as it is now, would be to make a group Track, of tracks each loaded with a different pass. That idea is using the interface we currently have. In this case we're just one feature away: Split clips into a group track.
