Ableton Live 8.2.6 Running very slow on Powerbook G4

I recently installed OS 10.5.8 on my Powerbook (so I could use an iPad as a controller) and now Ableton 8.2.6 is running slowly.
It's a Powerbook 5,7 17" has a 1.67 Ghz processor and 2 GB of Ram.
Is there anything I can reconfigure (buffer size is now at 512) to help speed things up?

On such a computer, you'll run Live 5 fine, but not 8.

Why´s that? A little warping and few FX should run fine with 8 as with 5.
And as I understand the op Live ran fine before upgrading the OS.
Unfortunately I have no other idea how to help than checking the new systems preferences.

Intel mac is needed by live's system requirements.
