Why is clip automation recording not allowed?

As a developer by day, i tend to like logical things.
One thing that is bugging me currently is the lack of ability to record clip automation.

What is the logic behind not allowing clip automation recording, but allowing automation recording in the horizontal view? There has to be a reason why it's not included, anybody know?

I don't know, and what really boggles my mind is why information like pitchbend and modwheel DO get recorded, and can be played back to the synth with no apparent problems.

It's weird, and it would be nice to hear the explanation from Ableton themselves, really.
