Having gone through a similar experience as the OP, investing in equipment and the endless days and nights developing an elaborate and brilliant performance setup, I have to agree with starving student above.

Keep it simple, be creative and have fun. That is so much more important, both to the audience and to your future self, than the mixer, audio interface or session view arrangement.

Just do a F set in arrangement view, press play on your apc, and play around with some effects on the master while smiling and jumping. Touch the club mixer from times to times, take a sip of your beer, rearange your hair, light a cig, talk to a chick, then return to beginning

Profit :!:

 yawn...
...this attitude is dated and absurd. Percieved by who? Some random forum poster most likely more interested in production than DJing?!? Beatmatching is a means to an end, nothing more; apart from the odd snob, most club patrons will be primarily interested in your song selection and ability to blend/mix those songs well, regardless of media. They won't care whether you're using vinyl, CDs, variable-speed tapedecks or 1's and 0's on your laptop.

My advice to the OP:

- given your timeline, go with what you know: Ableton, APC-40, and (possibly) augment that with another controller. I like to have extra knobs since the APC-40's are better used dedicated to FX racks, but to each his own. A couple months is not enough time to master beat matching on 1200s or CDJs; even if you have it down in a bedroom setting you're apt to get wrecked once you factor in the echos and noise of a club setting.

good luck and cheers,
hamish

Yo!

I'm a bit late to the party but I've just been offered a "well paid" spot at a festival in Alicante (Spain by the way) and I'm having second thoughts due to the fact that all my stuff is premixed and I work in a "studio" environment.

What I've decided to do is take ONE (yes one) toon and make it evolve / devolve for 45 minutes. No need to mix in other shit. Have fun with YOUR thing.

My setup will be.....

PC+Live

M Audio O2 midi keyboard / controller.

That's 8 knobs (there's some buttons but I can't be fucked mapping them) but that's all I need

Yeah, that's it. If it works in your normal environment all's good...........

Wish me luck.......... 8O

yep.. having a conscience is problematic like that...

but in all seriousness when you think about it.. you HAVE TO do the show..
it'll be a great experience even if you're going to be stressed throughout..
even if you see yourself as a studio guy..
it's called expanding one's horizons..
8)
I say fuck the crowd (as a motto).. do it for you !
put an x on that item..
