hi there this is my firs post and would like to know i have just bought a 2010 octo core mac pro 2.4ghz for £1700 brand new and its still got apple warranty and wanted to know how this system handles with ableton or should i just return it please any advise would be amazing as im new to mac as well i dont see noone posting about this specific model my pc is 5 years old geek benchmark is 1779 and this mac pro is about 14000 so i thought it would be sick for what i want to do i use NI maschine and plugins in ableton so any advise would be amazing please
so will ableton utilize the 8 cores or will it struggle i also use traktor pro 2 !!!

I uses the Mac Pro 2008, 2.8 Ghz, 8 core model and are more than happy with it! Big Balls! I use an end 2008 8 core mac with 8 Gb ram (can't remember the cpu speeds at the moment) and I've never had any real problems running Live on it. I don't think Live ever passed ~40% of cpu/system usage, but I mostly use UAD dsp for my fx. I don't know how good Live spreads it's processing among the 8 cores, but it almost never fails me. Every now and then (rarely) a crash of Live, that's it. But that has nothing to do with the machine itself imo. Best computer I ever bought!

Ableton do work very well with the 8 cores on my setup! Nice to see the overall cpu usage in activity monitor when you use live. Live reports 20 procent systemload, but the the OSX system activity application reports that the the Mac Pro is only using 5 % cpu power, thats brilliant! I got SSD discs and it really makes a big difference on the cpu load and working with Live.......Hope that helped.
