I use an end 2008 8 core mac with 8 Gb ram (can't remember the cpu speeds at the moment) and I've never had any real problems running Live on it. I don't think Live ever passed ~40% of cpu/system usage, but I mostly use UAD dsp for my fx. I don't know how good Live spreads it's processing among the 8 cores, but it almost never fails me. Every now and then (rarely) a crash of Live, that's it. But that has nothing to do with the machine itself imo. Best computer I ever bought!

Ableton do work very well with the 8 cores on my setup! Nice to see the overall cpu usage in activity monitor when you use live. Live reports 20 procent systemload, but the the OSX system activity application reports that the the Mac Pro is only using 5 % cpu power, thats brilliant! I got SSD discs and it really makes a big difference on the cpu load and working with Live.......Hope that helped. 8)
