MIDI troublems
I'm trying to get Ableton to automate parameters on my new DSI Prophet 08. There are two problems:
1) The Prophet uses NRPN MIDI, which Ableton can't handle. Supposedly it's possible with a Max for Live patch, but I don't own M4L so I'm limited to only using the Prophets CC controls. This isn't that big of a setback, however....
2) When playing back smooth CC automation curves, the parameters respond in jumpy steps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5BnNS30 ... ture=g-upl
....I tried different grid divisions, as well as turning off the grid completely but it remains jumpy. I then tried another DAW (Reaper) and didn't experience the same problem. The movement was very fluid/responsive to any curve I drew.
...does anyone have any experience with either of these issues (especially #2)?

Re: MIDI troublems
Not exactally an answer to your question but . . . Check this out: http://soundtower.com/plugse/prophet/index.html
it's a VST and AU plugin for controlling the Prophet08 within your DAW.
I haven't played with it (tho I played around with the demo of the Mopho plugin) seems pretty cool.

Re: MIDI troublems
interesting -- might be useful. I just hope I can get the problem solved without having to dish out more $. :/
Re: MIDI troublems
beware of 'soundtower' stuff... highly unstable softwares
(I had not tried this one though)

Re: MIDI troublems
that's very strange indeed...
I'd try it again with a different midi output device (if possible)
sounds like midi is getting stuck at equal intervals...
I'd contact support@ableton.com if this is still happening on a different midi interface..

Re: MIDI troublems
Yep - tried another MIDI interface. Same result.
...emailed ableton.

Re: MIDI troublems (attn: DSI Prophet 08 users!)
Ableton wasn't able to find the source of the problem -- they think it's the DSI Prophet 08, but DSI says it has to be Live. I'm stuck... any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :/
Re: MIDI troublems
maybe try to mess around with
"ThinningAggressiveness"
"MidiEventThinning"
in the option.txt file ?
(Set them to 0 ?)
don't forget to delete them after if it don't work..
