About the sounds in Suite.

Hey,

i am working in a musical school where i've installed several copies of ableton live 8 suite.
(at home, i don't own the suite).
One of the students asked me if there were a library of clips and sound, i replied 'for sure, it's the suite !' but couldn't find them. Is it possible that i installed only the instruments, but not the library contents ? If so, is there an easy way to correct this ?

There are 2 versions of suite, a download and a boxed one. the boxed one has eic2 and session drums extra. maybe that's what you mean?

They don't install automatically. You have to either double click on them in the OS (while live is running) or use Live's File Browser to find them on your hard drive and either drag and drop or double click on them there. At this point they will begin to load into their appropriate folders etc. You have to do this for each collection that comes with Suite. Kind of a PItA, but not that big a deal.... depending on how fast your computer is

Mine's not very fast and it wasn't a huge headache for me.

by the way, you're looking for .alp files (ableton live pack).

The only packs in Suite I installed manually were the disc-only ones (Session Drums and EIC2). Are you saying there are other collections I'm missing? Where would I find them?

there's at least SAMPLIFICATION, as ai recall, that doesn't automatically installs in the bozed version...

If I remember correctly, when I unboxed Suite and installed it, it put a bunch of live packs in a directory that I had to install to the program manually. Just open up live's preferences and go to the tab that mentions Live Packs or add ins. Then you can search and add them in like this, if you have a browser window open or Finder on a mac, you can also drag and drop the files right into Live without the preferences open, as if you were dropping in an instrument. A quick google search should bring you to the directory that Live installs the packs into.

And then I found TONS of ALPs that weren't installed- but every one of them was actually an update to an older version of some Live Pack I apparently don't own. One of them's an update to Samplification, which is a freebie Live Pack you can download from the site. Double-clicking any of these results in a message that you need to have the original Live Pack installed first. I didn't find any other ALPs. So on my system, everything was either already installed, or was an update to something I didn't have. Here are all the updates I found:

I'm half relieved, since I haven't been missing out on anything that was included in the package. But I'm also half bummed because I love finding new instruments to mess with and ultimately distract me from actually writing any music.

If it's Suite, even the downloaded version should have more than those sounds. In my drum machines instrument I have probably 40 - 50 kits alone... you may want to call or contact Ableton to clear things up. I don't see why the download would be different than the boxed version. I have about ten instruments and each has hundreds of presets... all stock sounds.

actually, thinking about this more... I think the boxed version comes with EIC2 (essential instruments collection 2)... it might be an option to omit it in the downloaded version. Did you do that? Or did you pay for it and just not realize it or download EIC2? Might want to double check that.

No, it's just as it's supposed to be. Download version.
But i was wondering about the clip library. i think it's very poor. Aside from the construction kits, i see nothing like ready-made rhythm sequences.
