Triggering video while performing live

Post by spacegnome » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:20 pm

I have video's that have been created to go alongside my songs. I perform in session view, and start songs by triggering the scene associated with that song. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to trigger the start of a video when i start a song... i'm a bit confused because video's only work in arrangement view

thoughts?

Made a max patch (non m4l) for this purpose (kind of). it's a bit messy, but i can share it if you want.
MacBook Pro 13" Retina i7 2.8 GHz OS 10.13, L10.0.1, M4L.
MacStudio M1Max 32Go OS 12.3.1

Or a vj app like http://www.justaddmusictv.com/justaddmusic/JAM/JAM.html

I use resolume which receives Osc from a m4l device.

You can do this with locators. Put a locator at the start of the video, Midi map it to the same key as you're using for the scene, then the scene will trigger the video as well. You can do this with more than one video as long as all the videos are on the same track, and use the arrange page loop brace to loop the video (the loop brace doesn't move with the Midi trigger though so you can only loop one video or get fast with the arrow keys).

On my machine (quad core PC a few years old) I noticed a bit of latency probably due to the extra strain of the video, which can be got round by triggering early - if you're quantised to bar, say, trigger on about the second beat of the bar before. That might not be a problem if you have a newer machine.
