Studio Desks?

Post by Contrebass » Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:03 pm

Hey guys! I pretty sure some of you guys have a studio at your house or something and I was wondering what like table or desk you use.

I want one so I can put my mac on it but it will also fit the DJ controller. And my speakers would be on stands on each side.

Any suggestions?

I took a tip from this cat:

The idea is so simple, so inexpensive, completely customizable. Built something similar to this for about 90 bucks.

I just bought two rta mix stations, have them side by side, and put a "board" across the top for a full length shelf. The cost is two hundred but you have alot of space, plus room for rack gear.

I use both sit-down & stand-up desks. Better for you health to not be sitting all the time. The laptop goes on the stand-up desk, & the cinema display goes on the sit-down desk. Best of both worlds.

I like the Middle Atlantic desks with rack-mount space. Not the least expensive option, but the quality is solid. They are marketed as video workstations. I have the MDV-DSK:

I made the stand-up desk using an Ultimate Support Apex stand & some shelves.

Ideally, I'd have a desk that could go from sitting-on-the-floor height to stand-up height.

Go to home depot
Get em to cut you a piece of thick ass plywood to whatever size you want
Then go to the plumbing dept and get like 2 or 3" x 4 lengths of however tall pipe and thread both ends
Get eight pipe flanges that fit your diameter pipe
Instant studio desk

Sturdy as hell.. Sanded and stained i am the envy of my producer friends
Just kidding
I dont have any friends

I also have the good 'ol Ikea Jerker, but without the shelf attachment. I got it used for $50 in 2007. Look on your local craigslist, that's how I found mine.

Here is my studio with ikea desk:

I picked this up at a local Guitar Center: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Studio-RTA- ... pspn=pla&= and they have a cheaper model and a mode expensive one (the higher cost one is 6 feet wide, mine is 5 feet) and on casters. Not sure if low end is on casters (probably not). But I have desktops on each side of mine, monitor (20" WS atm) + M-Audio BX8a's on either side, only rack gear in center section is Furman power conditioner and Motu 828Mk II. I think I got it on-sale for like $230. Only problem will be when I move - tear it down, put screws in bags LABELED (lol) so I can put it back together again. Rolls nicely on HW floors.

I think Argosy or Sterling has a really nice high end desk that does this too.
