Everything Live does when it comes to finding and managing files drives me absolutely crazy. It's sooooo damn slow. How can a simple file search app take a seconds to index my whole drive and Live takes forever to find something from about 18gb.

it's simply terrible.. and takes the wind out of your sails...
the waiting ...
if it's searching for a wav file in the library...why is it scanning the clip and presets folders..for hours...

oh I know this..
I timed it at some point.. it came to around 8 hours.. (50 Gb Library)
and it didn't act any better after that...
Live device browser search is also quite horrible...

God only knows.

I can completely believe that. First time I did it I forgot to press Save so I had to start all over again. Seriously, it shouldn't be this time consuming for Live to keep track of the library.

stupd question alert..

oddly enough, I don't think I use Live's file management/search. I mainly use "finder" on Mac.. is it because you guys turned off HD indexing (to improve ableton's performance, i think i heard that but maybe just making it up :P ) so you can't use finder/spotlight? told ya it was stupid..

I only have Windows 7 indexing my start menu. I wonder if that makes a difference? I wouldn't expect Live to use the Windows indexing but maybe it does?

nope... because windows indexer is ultra-fast..
in fact.. I use windows search instead of live-search whenver I can
