Is Ableton dead?
Is Ableton dead?
3 years the current version has been out for and it still crashes when you put it under any type of performance pressure.
Key developers have left and formed Bitwig, which looks like the Ableton everybody wants.
Still no news on Ableton 9. Is there now a realistic chance this will never be released?
When Bitwig is released will it kill a buggy, unreliable and dated Ableton for good?

What specific crashes are you experiencing? And have you been in contact with tech support about them? No reason to suffer that in silence - we're here to help you resolve things: http://ableton.com/support/contactjtdj wrote:3 years the current version has been out for and it still crashes when you put it under any type of performance pressure.

I've been using Ableton for a few years now and i hammer it.....i could probably count the number of times it has crashed on one hand.....and they were all before i changed from PC to Mac

Or perhaps they're working on Live 9, and it's a major upgrade.

We have pretty much zero reason to believe Ableton is going under. Has it been a long time since 8 came out? Sure. But I don't think there's any reason to believe Ableton is "out of it."
Here's hoping.

I don't have any problems at the moment but the last few times I contacted support it was crap, just like as if you were emailing a corporation like a supermarket...impersonal and not particularly helpful. Seems that the days have gone when you would get a reply from someone like Alex who could actually help you, now you get a different person with each reply and it's an exercise in frustration.Ableton_David wrote: What specific crashes are you experiencing? More staff and more like a big company are rarely good evidence that a company is going under.
Re: Is Ableton dead?
I'd rather a more stable and bug free version 8 than a buggy and crashing version 9 with a couple extra features
Re: Is Ableton dead?
In a word, no.
I've been using Live 8 since it came out for live performance and finished about 30 studio tracks in it. It's crashed maybe 5 or 6 times in that 3 years and always due to 3rd party VSTs.
I'm pretty sure they're working on a ground up rewrite for Live 9 which is a massive undertaking and will take time. I'm also pretty sure it'll kick the shit out of Bitwig's beta release.
