now that we have 64bit, how much RAM???

Hey Guys...
afaik... live only supportet roundabout 4gigs of ram...
but now that we are on 64bit, it could handle more, right?

so i am thinking of upgrading my MBP from 4 GB to a higher number,
but what does make sence? 8, 12, 16, 32

Most MacBooks cant have more than 8GB RAM... only the new Retina MacBook can have 16GB...

The size of RAM your computer can address depends on your type of CPU. My i5 540M for instance can only address 8GB.

I suggest you to check the Intel website before you buy more RAM. ;)

Wrong, all MBPs 2011 onwards can take 16Gb RAM

yeah, i heard the 2011 models state max 8gb, but they can take 16gb?

8Gb is OK but 4 is definitely too little for anything. I got new MBP 3 weeks ago with standard 4GB RAM and was disappointed that nearly everything even the simplest internet browsing was much slower then on old 2010 13´, it was fixed by RAM swap. Went for 16 Gb because it is silly not to, considering the current prices. Just like with cars, 3 cylinders might be enough to move but I like V6 - more comfort, safety and fun.

I stand corrected. From the "Late 2011" MBPs onwards they do support 16GB...

early. I have early 2011 17" that was upgraded to 16gb of RAM recently.
