16 or 32 makes sense to me.

The size of RAM your computer can address depends on your type of CPU. My i5 540M for instance can only address 8GB.

I suggest you to check the Intel website before you buy more RAM.

get 64 gigabytes to match the number of bits you need to make to music

Wrong, all MBPs 2011 onwards can take 16Gb RAMcids wrote:Most MacBooks cant have more than 8GB RAM... only the new Retina MacBook can have 16GB...

Re: now that we have 64bit, how much RAM???
8Gb is OK but 4 is definitely too little for anything. I got new MBP 3 weeks ago with standard 4GB RAM and was disappointed that nearly everything even the simplest internet browsing was much slower then on old 2010 13´, it was fixed by RAM swap. Went for 16 Gb because it is silly not to, considering the current prices. Just like with cars, 3 cylinders might be enough to move but I like V6 - more comfort, safety and fun.
Re: now that we have 64bit, how much RAM???
I stand corrected. From the "Late 2011" MBPs onwards they do support 16GB...
