A couple questions:

1) why going 6 core CPU? That's upwards of $1k alone (US price guestimate)
2) 32Gb memory - do you really need that much? If doing a lot of video or CAD/3D perhaps
3) 500W PSU? I would suggest you go for more along the lines of a 650W (Corsair/Antec/etc)

Othet than that, when is mine arriving? ;-) I just rebuilt my main desktop, 2500K Cpu, 650W Corsair PSU, new case fans front/rear, Gigabyte mobo and stock cooler, 16GB ram. Re-using 500Gb and 1TB HDD and replaced optical DVD w/Blu-Ray reader. Holding off redoing DAW since it had gotten a lot less mileage than main desktop (on 24x7). Will prolly go Ivy Bridge i7 quad w/16GB memory but I just did a re-install to Win7/K7 update (soon to be K8 update) and could be messy doing a restore (Paragon Backup image backups I am doing on systems vs Acronis).

Too small SSD (256 are cheap 512 if you can afford it)
Power supply is cheap and too low powered don't skimp on this
Motherboard might be bit too much?
There's better cooling then the intel
Onboard sound who cares

1. Because I had money to burn and its gooood.

2. Do I reallly need 32gb? No, not really but I thought why the fuck not? It could come in handy one day and RAM is cheap.

3. The maximum power plus 20% is only gonna be 480 odd watts plus its fanless, wanted to keep noise to a minimum while still having good cooling; the case has good sound insulation.

The 2 SSD drives at 300gb is good enough for me.

The power supply was over £100 alone, it is highly accoladed unit and is more than enough for my total power output (plus 20%).

Mike

I can amend my order in pre-production, there is a 650W Corsair TX650W that will save me 50 quid, what you reckon?

I would go for the 650W. I have a similar one in my updated main system and it's pretty quiet (not fanless). My WHS is louder than my desktop (needs fans replaced or blown out aga (got quieter when I shot the fans with air last time).

So when is my system coming!?

This is the PSU I ordered as a replacement for my 24x7 system: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817139012 and it is fairly quiet.

I went with a 650 w psu. I had 8gb of ram and that was enough, as Live doesn't access more than 4 gb at a time (yet). I have a i5 procsesor, and run mega vsts. so yours should do fine, as mine is still not enough.

while your at it you may want to get an external esata back up hd and clone when you have a good running system / template. I am cloning to a 3 TB Hd. and backing up to a 2 tb.

Also if you have money to burn why not go here and check out some nice accessories that help quiet your pc.. they have some killer parts. I am upgrading my 2 cpu fans with some cooler and quieter ones from here:
