Hi guys,
I've got Ableton hooked up to my Roland Fantom G keyboard. But when I record a MIDI track, and try and drag an audio effect on to it, nothing happens. I guess this makes sense, but I'm sure I've seen Audio effects placed on MIDI tracks before. Could I be doing something wrong?
Audio effects on MIDI track?
Re: Audio effects on MIDI track?
Yes, you can, but it won't do you no good unless there's an Ableton-/Partner-/vst-Instrument placed before it.funken wrote:Yes.
You can drag audio effects onto Midi tracks.
After placing an audio effect the space before it should read 'drop instrument here', shouldn't it?where it says 'drop audio affects here'!
- And note the changes in the output section of the midi track before and after dropping either. So: No Instrument, no audio.

Re: Audio effects on MIDI track?
Thanks the External Instrument worked great! Although now I have a new problem. So I've got my Roland Fantom hooked up, and my Fantom VST open on Ableton. I've opened two new MIDI tracks and placed 'External Instruments' on both of them, so now I can place Audio effects on these MIDI tracks (which I couldn't do before). However, now when I place an effect into one of the MIDI tracks, the effect is applied onto the clips in both MIDI tracks. How can I stop this from happening? In summary, both MIDI tracks have External Instruments on them, but the Audio effects placed into one MIDI track effect both MIDI tracks.
Thanks for all the help so far

Re: Audio effects on MIDI track?
Both MIDI tracks are connected to instruments on the Fantom, via the Fantom VST.

Re: Audio effects on MIDI track?
Have you tried an external instrument track setup? Then Im sure you can add audio fx,as mentioned.
