You can shift notes by small amounts in the OT too, sounds similar to the new tempest feature. Handy, but I haven't used it myself yet.

are guys saying that on the tempest your realtime recording has to be quantized, there is no option to realtime record without quantize?

Depends on which once. The MD and MnM basically stick everything to a grid, but I believe the OT can record notes to values other than a strict grid.

I just pulled the trigger on a MD UW. Should be here by Friday. I never considered a Tempest. All the DSI stuff I've owned felt cheaply put together and I didn't like how they sounded.

Yeah, its expensive. But I'm a hobbyist with a good job so Id rather buy something of good quality that's different from what most folks have (Maschines, drum racks, etc)

Plus, in 20 years some of this stuff will be vintage and I can pass it down to my kids ;)

There's also that endless trap of buying new VST synths and drum machines that never ends. Over the years at $200 bucks a pop, when you add it all up, you could've just bought one MD or Virus. Like, I never have to buy another $200 VST again 8O

Sure thing man, hit me up via email when you're ready. Petty swamped lately but I'd love to meet some other local musicians.

So in planning hardware purchases I am gonna go for the Tempest first.

So this leads me to another question, because I still want one of theses elektron box of goodies.
Basically I am trying to create a hardware rig for myself, completely giving up the laptop for performing music.
I mainly do an eclectic blend of breakbeat dubbed out electrokraut darkwave kinda thing.
I like sequencing beats on the fly, recording the modulation of parameters on the fly, playing keys, and making noises, tweaking fx, building complex loops and structures from scratch, that can be recalled, reworked etc.

Machinedrum looks hella fun to play with sequencing beats. I am assuming the Octotrack and the Monomachine are similar in the realms of sequencing.

So what are some of the differences in the 3 Elektron devices?
As much as I have watched on videos, the main fundamental differences I know of or dont know of are
Octotrack is more like a sampling machine, live input recording and manipulation plus sequencing.
Monomachine is like a Machinedrum with VA synthesis?
Machinedrum is a mix between sample based and VA synthesis?

I am kinda eyeballing a Monomachine with the keyboard. In some user videos it seems polyphonic?
However the Octotrack is starting to look like an awesome replacement for a few of the sample mash up plugs I like.

I'd love to hear you guys thoughts on all things Elektron, or good references besides the obvious elektron website.
