the essence of good programming is not the coding itself, but the design, structure, and algorithms that the code represents.
almost anybody can write code, however really good coders are not so easy to find.
also, if audio software is your eventual goal then theory is important; a good grasp of maths and signal processing will be especially helpful.
I'm thinking of starting a course in programming - advice?

SuperCollider. Google it. Thank me later. Forget all these newbs talking about C/C++ etc. SuperCollider is THE music programming language. OO programming and uses a unit generator paradigm so application for electroacousticians is straight forward
