Looks freaking awesome! Hope it sounds as good and the presets are fast to find and there's enough sound variety for most uses. Then it's goodbye Sylenth for me.

Not sure about the hexagonal screen in the middle - looks a bit like something out of Stargate. I hope some skins come out to tweak that.

Edit: Oh no, I just had a listen to the demo above, and it sounds frosty like Serum. That's exactly my worst fears. :(

Nearly every sound in Serum sounds harsh, cold, frosty, raspy, etc. That's also the opinion of many others so it can't be a coincidence. It's got to be the instrument. Some of the plucks and pads are good in Serum. Anyway, I've heard two sounds from Hive and they both sound Serum-ish to me.

I'm glad it's a one-page layout, like Bazille's Gearporn skin. Faster and more creative patching for me. I tend to not use stuff buried in other pages as often as I should, simply because of how my thought process works.

A forumite over at KVR created a single-page skin for Zebra called Redux. Looks very classy, but alas, it's quite tall vertically, but not widened proportionately, so all the controls and windows are quite small to work with even on a 24" monitor. Probably unusable on a laptop. Digressing. I'm digressing.

What software plug-ins can have their skins changed?

u-he's ones. Zebra has many user-made skins, and around three "official" ones - Original grey, TDZ (my favourite), and Unempty DarkHorse (which was a user skin originally I think). Bazille has 2 official ones. Don't know about Diva and ACE.

Or was there some joke in your question and it went over my hungover head?

Thanks. No, I'm curious about this. I bought some Waves plug-ins last week and while familiar in look and layout I'd really like to be able to construct my own interface for it. I actually prefer the look and flexibility of the interface in plug-ins like the line from Melda Productions, especially their "minimal" variant.

This got me thinking about interfaces for plug-ins. Of course I'm able to solve most interface issues with just moving controls to Push, except for when I need to view something graphical.

Serum sounds great. Hive will likely sound great, it's a u-he synth.

the comments that Serum has sound quality problems seem pretty much based in subjective, non-scientific judgements that are really pretty, uh, silly...

anyway, bring on the Hive, Urs.

Because it's a metallic type of preset design it sounded a bit like what I'm after at the end. I don't think anyone who makes trance has got their hands on it yet. It needs some typical JP-8000, Z3TA type of sound demos. Urs knows what he's doing he is going to release the public beta unfinished so we wont know the true HIVE until next year. I hope Adam Szabo get a copy to test and make presets for. Whenever someone says Zebra is not for trance I give the Adam Szabo preset bank demo link.

http://www.adamszabo.com/zebra2-soundset/ that's the kind of presets HIVE needs

Hive is super easy to work with...

all in one window (except Mod Matrix tab 2)
drag-n-drop modulation
every meaningful parameter can be modulated including FX

I don't do trance stuff, so others will have to do some demos for those interested. This is a Hive example.

That sounded good musically, but still a little bit on the harsh/cold side.

That sounded Bazille-ish or maybe draigathar/deva-ish?
