gate type of tool needed

Post by mrobare » Wed Aug 22, 2012 3:52 am

hi

this is what i am trying to do
on track 1 have guitar rig playing my guitar through it
on track 2 a prerecorded guitar track
i need a tool (i thought a gate would work)
so that while i am playing the guitar
track 2 is muted
when i stop playing guitar track 2 is unmuted

and it needs to be 64 bit

i tried a gate that comes with live but couldn't
get it to work
i tried sidechaining it no go with that

any body got any ideas how to do this?

i am paralyzed from chest down so i can't use a foot switch

thanks

Live's gate is a pretty straightforward gate, as far as I've seen. But in this case you need to use it with "Flip" turned on, with side-chaining. Flip mode means that it turns *off* when the (sidechain) input goes over a certain level for a certain duration, with release, etc, i.e., the opposite of the usual gating action.

I think you need ducking not gating - ducking is kind of opposite of gating.

As previous poster described with flip mode it should work.
