The ability to have 64-beat rather than 32-beat patterns is nice, but probably not overwhelmingly so. Ditto for the additional pattern and ROM machine memory. The +Drive option, on the other hand, is huge.

The Machinedrum has only enough memory for 128 patterns. What the +Drive option does is multiply that memory by 128. In effect, it gives you a shelf with 128 Machinedrums on it, each with its own memory, and lets you pick which one you want to use. Not only does that let you store lots more patterns, but it also lets you experiment with patterns and then reload everything from +Drive memory if you decide you don't like what you did.

@ark sounds tempting, but how long does it need to load from the +drive and
can i switch gears at a gig, between a song or between a set ?

I still can´t decide if i should give Machinedrum a try or should go and test the Octatrack. Anyway its a lot of money to spend.

Naburo

The md loads samples but then plays then back as 12 bit. I don't think the octatrack does this. A lower bit depth really changes the character of some samples.

With said, the md is a lot of fun. Demo to be post real soon

Load from +drive is very fast, only a few seconds, so you could definitely change at a gig.

OT can use 16 or 24 bit samples, I believe only 44.1kHz though other wise weird things start to happen.

So when does get Elektron get rid of this 12 bit thing in the MD?
Seems to be a bit old fashioned, but on the other hand it might have a decent sound flavour.
Maybe I start out with the Octatrack and if I get addicted, I´ll invest into the MD afterwards.
Thx anyway.

I believe the md plays back it's synthesis sounds 24 bit. At least that's how I read the manual. Only samples are played back 12 bit

Btw -the md syncs up super tight to ableton.

I finally got to sit down with the MD, I also picked up a Minitaur. Yeah, I've been at work - but I resampled a knob twisting session if you want to check it out. no fx, just raw MD and Minitaur

The MD is something else - wow!
