Ferrofish A16 MK-II

Post by McQ714 » Mon Sep 03, 2012 3:33 pm

Anyone tried out this thing??
Looks like a great option to use with the UFX's dual ADAT i/o. The only other ADAT i/o I know of that would compare in price would be the Octopre Mk2 Dynamic and you'd have to buy two of them.

What are your preferred 8-channel or more AD/DA converters in any price range?

Thanks for all the input on this.
You were very persuasive so I've decided to pick one of these up to complement my Fireface UFX.
I'll share my opinions of it when I get around to it... or not!

disregarding price, a 8 channel ad/da that i would pick would be a burl mothership.. i have the 2 channel ad which i use with my RME which is great.. not ufx but ff800.. what are u tracking to need so many channels.. that's a good price for 16 channels.. but i remember way back when i looked at the ff800 adat's, i read that i could only use 8 channels if it's running at 44.. maybe i read it wrong.. either way, i'm sure it'll sound good.

It was more of a convenience purchase than a necessity.
I've got a number of external units which I wanted to have connected at all times.
I'm still running all of the ins and outs from both the UFX and the A16 into 2 Neutrik patchbays.
But here's the list of external gear I have with I/O numbers to show:

Moog MF-101 - 1 in, 1 out
Moog MF-104M - 1 in, 2 outs
Moog MF-105M - 1 in, 2 outs
Moog MF-108M - 1 in, 2 outs
Lexicon MX400 - 4 ins, 4 outs
Korg Zero 4 - 8 ins, 2 outs
Novation Xio 25 - 0 ins, 2 outs

So that pretty much covers the A16 i/o which leaves almost all (only need Main outs) of the UFX analog i/o open for future expansion of synths, Foogers, etc. That would be another 10 ins and 12 outs plus the AES/EBU i/o.
