This looked as kind of a Holy Grail for MP3 use in Ableton Live , but when trying it out , Live sees these "converted" files as corrupt ....WaveMP3 is a nifty little program that will convert "Normal" MP3's into MP3's with
the .wav extension so they can be used by programs that don't support the MP3-format,
but do support sound-files in the Windows Wave-format.
What the program actually does is adding a so called "RIFF/WAVE"-header in front of
the actual MP3 data and, when available, will convert an ID3v1.1 tag into the wave equivalent

Thanks for the link, Mbazzy! Nice idea.
I don't think this is as good as it sounds, though. The author seems to suggest in the article that these stealth MP3s will work in anything. But so far, the only programs I can get to read them are Windows Media Player and Winamp. Both of which already have MP3-decoding capability. Anything else that doesn't decode MP3s (Live, Bidule, and Tracktion are the ones I tried) can't read them.
Sounds like the stealth MP3s are only really good in a case where MP3s are intentionally filtered out, but can still be decoded (like certain web servers, like the author suggests).
