How do I open Synth1 in ableton live?

I am a total beginner in live and cannot figure out how to add synth1 into ableton. When i go to the preferences to try and activate vst plugins, it says it can't find the folder. and i know it is in my downloads folder. Is there something else I need to do for it to work? Is synth1 only good for a Mac? Because I am running windows 7. Any help would be much appreciated. I really have no idea what I'm doing yet. Thanks in advance!!

All I know is it's a zipped file. How do I tell if it is dll or whatever
