I can't seem to find a way to get signal to the compressor on a live audio track w/ a microphone connected. Signal is definitely going through on my track and I hear myself through headphones, but the compressor is doing nothing. It is definitely on and I am successful when using audio clips or even MIDI tracks but for some reason I can't compress the live audio coming in with a mic. Most people I talk to are DJs and don't need to do this ever but I'm a singer and want compression on the vocals while I sing them. Thanks for your help!

Make sure you get the sound from Ableton, not the direct from your soundcard.
in Ableton, put the vocal track on 'in' (check the i-o above the mixer, select 'in' instead of 'auto')
take a nice 'voice processing' preset, and enjoy!
