I would have loved to seen a new mixer, some additions to midi editing features maybe an update to the drum rack a new drum synth just a few ideas. The glue compressor looks useful but there are already tons of glue fx out there.
They are keeping new features to a minimum so that when they release "Ableton Live X" it seems like a bigger update. Roman numeral updates are more important.

I'd love to see what else is happening then. I am happy at V8 for right now but I still would really like to see what they have been cooking up.

We see this a lot "in the years it has taken to develop Live 9". Well, actually, I would think the integration with Max4Live took a SIGNIFICANT amount of "the years". It likely required lots and lots of messy work under the hood in live, even though it's not immediately apparent when you just compare Live8 pre M4L with Live8 with M4L.
That would not surprise me. M4L looks awesome I only use the standard software. For me Live is a host/sequencer/sampler I would love to see some updates to the core daw stuff. I wasn't trying to make it seem like Live is bad DAW because its not.

It does look a little like, "Live v9 Production Analyze." But hopefully there is way more than that going on.. Actually, depending on price and features.. I might upgrade my v7 license...

Edit = I remember version 6!! That was a really good vintage. and so was v5... They need to bring it back to the old days!

well for the moment its not that bad - i want also more core updates - i mean i have to turn everytime ableton off, when i decide to plug in and use my midi controller after i started kind of dumb imo.
well the gui needs a serious update. then stability needs to improved.
i want to see a convoltion reverb and also an improved redux+overdrive effect.
there are far more things on my list ... so etc.

i hope thats only an alpha version which will gets more imporvements.

Unplugging replugging midi (and audio) devices without restarting live work fine here. On Windows? If so, that's likely your problem.

Also, stability? I don't think I've had live crash on me once in the last year (apart from a iLok+waves problem, but that had nothing to do with Live itself, and was solved with Waves V9 anyway)

There is another video with over 100,000 views that is the original, same video, but it was labelled as 'sneak peak' implying there's more to it.
And there better be more to it or I'll be shifting to BitWig.

Ableton 9 really needs the following:

64 Nit Support
Curved Automation
Multiple Monitor Support (Separate Clip View and Arrangement View or whatever else you want to put in another monitor)
Online collab projects (In BitWig you can work on a project online with another person at the same time)

Local collab: Be able to jam with more than 1 MIDI keyboard at once locally

honestly all major daws manage to make this possible - reaper, FL, Cubase, Sonar even Studio one - its only ableton doing that crap. so beasically not my fault - its ableton problem.

and btw why getting so offending - you must be a mac user!
well the stability got better - but i have still crashes from time to time adding default ableton devices like for example the grain delay or when working with omnisphere - everything is fine when working FL with that.

well i still hope for more improvements if thats all - i dont need an update. :?

Why do so many feel the need to threaten Ableton over this? Are you guys trolling or something? It worked. To anyone legitimately complaining that there wasn't that much revealed in the video, or that they've wasted three years adding spectrum to an eq that they didn't ask for... Go back to posting in the 2015 thread.

It takes time to develop quality software. Meanwhile, within these three years, we've seen a lot of development in our current versions, including new partnerships for content, all of which is welcome for different users.

Ableton, thanks for putting the time into this, instead of just asking me to pony up an upgrade fee for one or two new lame things... I can't wait to see what else is up L9s sleeve.

Sorry, actually didn't mean to sound like an ass, just did anyway due to natural talent! =)

I used to run Win using Cubase and Live, and unpluggging/replugging never worked, not in live, not in cubase. Then I switched to mac, and unplugging/replugging always seems to work. Midi especially IS much better implemented in OSX, but if others manage it it's a bit odd if it doesn't work in Live as well, I'll agree to that. It's just that I have never managed it on my win machines ever...

Personally I'm super pleased with Live8 as my main daw, and I think the improvements displayed in the video looks fine indeed! My guess would be that there are a lot more improvements (which is right there to see in the video, new browser, new buttons and stuff). Even if all the updates are "minor" workflow improvements of already existing stuff, like with the EQ and Comp, I'd still say it's great additions to an already spectacularly good DAW.

You can, just select what midi port to use as input for each channel, or, what am I missing?

haha ok then well - i was reading its a windows based problem only. it really works for other daws fine. and i can also use to midi controllers at once in ableton. i just have to plug them in before i open ableton and then is everything fine.

Sometimes i worked with controller(projects) and then decided to make some sound design with sylenth1, alchemy or whatever and there i really need my midi controller to hit several keys to test if the sound is everywhere the same sounding. and then when switching between the project i just had to close ableton and this is going on my nerves sometimes abit.

what else i need? well a score editor would be really good. since im able to read note sheets. and i mean Logic has it for ages now.

then i hope ableton 9 is able to open faster on windows i mean there are still code bits which use an old windows feature or programm like you can see here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4vJLH6Sym4

tried to import and old mp3 with special characters/symbol and ableton gave me that error by opening that windows app? i think such things slow really down ableton on windows.

i was talking about windows only ofc since i dont own a mac - just a VM with Snow leopard to try a few AUs.
(as there ableton works really better as in win8. (they improved with the latest stable build - had no crashes in Ableton 8.3.4)

jesus christ folks, if you're dumb enough to think that what is obviously one video covering one set of new features in an upgrade is actually the entire preview of the entire upgrade... well i'm surprised you're capable of using ableton at all, let alone turning your computer on.
