As a part time website designer, please stop using IE until Microsoft makes it render as well as other browsers. It's such a pain in the ass to make changes to layouts so that they don't get dicked up in IE.

Nah, it's fine since they brought in conditionals.

Code: Select all

<!--[if lt IE 7]>
	<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="ie6-and-down.css" />
<![endif]-->

Takes me about an hour at the end of a project to fix Exploder issues, not a problem.
I spend a lot longer making media queries and making retina graphics these days.

Oh my gods! THAT hurts! I am sure it is the way you said earlier "Oh, I can do it" (or web "designer" found on Ebay auction)
I believe even someone who spent 3 days with Lynda.com Dreamweaver videos or "Webdesign for dummies" WOULDN'T be able to make something so atrocious. In my web design school such pages were called "Familie Müller stellt sich vor". What is only missing are some animated gifs with spinning golden CDs.

Like the big, beautiful images of Push and Live 9 but the rest of it is fail. I can't even navigate to the forum from the homepage!

Just because the kids like it doesn't make it good design!

Colours are ungood. Layout is daft. Still, it gets your attention.

I like the new website. Modern layout, big text. Thumbs up!

What's wrong with really, really wide drop down menus, Angstrom? :wink:

This page looks the worst on my machine:
https://www.ableton.com/en/live/feature-comparison/

If you scroll down, the table is invisible and unformatted, and there are no marke to notate what's in Intro, Standard or Suite.

Designers need to compensate for all active browsers. Otherwise you're losing business.

The new website is terrible. All these straight lines and I couldn't find
1) Community
2) News of when Ableton 9 would be released - had to go elsewhere for that
3) Instead of getting a list of what's new in Live 9, I get a shit youtube
video with no info, just some dude messing around with his gear and big words
popping up at me like 'RECORD AUTOMATION INTO SESSION CLIPS'

CRAP

What I could find was a patronising video all about Live as if we didn't
know. It's as if the site is geared to complete newbies and forget about
those who already use Live. WTF? And what's with all the crappy colours?
The organisation of the website is a mess. Bring back the
tidy and user friendly design you had before. Get rid of this in your face
and garish, BUY THIS and BUY THAT crap and restore some dignity.

Looking forward to Live 9 though.

They seem to have taken a strong play out of Apple's product presentation playbook for a lot of it. While there are a few minor things that are obnoxious (words/menus that are hard to read because there's not a background div or something), overall, I kind of liked the product presentation. Lots of images and feature hype, and lots of videos and audio examples.

It sure beats looking at yesterday's version of the Ableton site! (if not just because it has Live 9 stuff plastered all over it!)

and they didn't want the forum to embarrass them on the announcement day? it feels more like they're embarrassing us.

Ableton - walk onto the street, yell out "does anybody know how to make a web page!!?!?!?!" and pick the most socially awkward person that replies. better yet, pick the person that doesn't raise their hand, they probably know this stuff the best but are too nerdy and shy to answer.

disagree. Apple's web site is great design because it's not cluttered with crap. the Ableton site looks like... well, it just looks like they don't know what they hell they're doing.

stick with DAW design guys, farm the web site out to funken. I'm sure his rates are reasonable, throw a Push at him and he'll be happy and your site won't be puking all over the interweb.
