Live 9 on deck, when's 8.4 out of beta??
Live 9 on deck, when's 8.4 out of beta??
With Live 9 now right around the corner do we have any indication when 8.4 x64 will come out of beta?? Seems pretty close... I haven't installed ableton on new box yet as I'm keeping it all x64 and would prefer not to be a beta tester at this time.
Re: Live 9 on deck, when's 8.4 out of beta??
Seriously? No one else is curious or concerned about this? x64 was a HUGE issue, and now with the paid next full version on the horizon and no sign of completion, no one else is wondering? I'd like to try 8.4 on my x64 box before making any jumps into 9 just yet...

The current beta is very stable - actually much more stable than some final versions of Live have been. I have now used the 64-bit beta for quite a while, and like I wrote in another thread, it hasn't crashed even once, even with large projects and working for hours and hours straight.db2 wrote:I haven't installed ableton on new box yet as I'm keeping it all x64 and would prefer not to be a beta tester at this time.

Still, it begs the question, will 9 be released before 8.4? As a way to pressure people for a cash grab? Or will they be released concurrently? I've waited this long, Id prefer to simply install the final release since I own max for live and other add-ons, as opposed to installing a half linked beta and having to install another version shortly after.

gonna speculate 8.4 will be released soon to tide users over while v9 is opened to testers, public testers, etc.. until the release.

If it works for you, use it. Nobody is going to yell at you if you use an older version. Ableton isn't forcing you to upgrade.
8.4 won't automatically stop working when 9 is released. Live 8.4 will still be powerful and intuitive software even when 9 is released.
Repeat this every morning when you wake up: It is OK to use an older version.

I'm definitely not an early adopter, going to wait on 9, but a stable and FULLY working (m4l, etc) version of x64 Ableton is a must for my new box. I'm hoping we're close and all the resources don't shift to 9 without releasing 8.4 properly, hence this post.

I know what you mean, and I thought the same. Upgraded my whole workstation this fall, wanted to resist the beta for the same reasons ... Then I gave it a go, and seriously, if you need the 64 bit memory space in Live for your projects NOW, it's well worth it to install it today. Again, I've already used it in heavy projects with a _lot_ of stuff going on, and it just works.db2 wrote:I've waited this long, Id prefer to simply install the final release since I own max for live and other add-ons, as opposed to installing a half linked beta and having to install another version shortly after.
Of course your mileage may vary. If you're super paranoid (like me ) you can take an image of your system partition before you install the beta. Don't know the platform you're on, but if it's Windows (7), I can recommend Macrium Reflect wholeheartedly: http://www.macrium.com/
Even the free version of Macrium works fine; I've test restored my whole system using it a couple of times (with the Linux based restoring environment boot CD it can burn for you), and it's 100% functional. Makes sense to image your system partition in any case.

So really though, we have absolutely no answers or clue as to whether or not 8.4 will come out before/with 9? Would seem pretty ridiculous that 9 hits first...

I would think that if they are promoting and ready to release 9 that at a minimum the x64 glitches would be worked out by now. Kinda baffled...xzusa8ky wrote:Me to waiting!db2 wrote:With Live 9 now right around the corner do we have any indication when 8.4 x64 will come out of beta?? Seems pretty close... They'll be too busy with over "9" thousand new bugs coming in Live "9"
Re: Live 9 on deck, when's 8.4 out of beta??
I'm hoping this beta gets released sometime before the holidays. Praying it's before 9 as support is gonna be inundated after that. If 8.4 somehow gets benched or slowed down because of this 9 release I will be pretty miffed as a customer. Anyhow, here's hoping it's soon. I'd like to break in the new box with some music making over the (pre)holiday season.Matsun wrote:They'll be too busy with over "9" thousand new bugs coming in Live "9"
