Live 9 Pricing

Post by Ableton_David » Thu Oct 25, 2012 8:06 pm

We've noticed some confusion about upgrade pricing for Live 9, and wanted to clarify things here.

To begin with, pricing in the Ableton web shop adapts according to products that a customer already owns - including versions of Live, Instruments, and Max for Live. As such, people who own different combinations will see different upgrade prices. Nevertheless, we see the confusion amongst customers, and will try to make our pricing as transparent as possible to everyone, as soon as possible.

Existing Suite 8 owners will be offered an exclusive introductory discount on upgrades to Live 9 Suite, to be made available upon release. This introductory discount is not yet shown on the website, as Live 9 Suite is not yet available. We apologize for any confusion or frustration from our oversight in not making this discount clear on ableton.com, and ask for your patience as we iron out the kinks in our new site.

This seems to be the biggest fly in everyone's ointment so far - glad to see that it's being taken care of (whether or not it was a post-hoc response to grumpy fans :) )

So does it REALLY mean if i upgrade my Live 8 (without Max For Live license) to Suite 8 now, i will get Suite 9 (incl. Max For Live) for free when it will be out?

Thanks for answer.

Well Done Ableton. Seriously, good intervention! As a suit and M4L owner I look forward to he offer, I recommend d FREE if we buy Push :D
DAWS: Live 11 Suite + PUSH2, Studio One, Bitwig and Reason all via an X32 desk: Instruments: modular and analogue stuff, guitars, basses and drums.

Yes, the current campaign is still valid. The original post applies specifically to upgrades to Suite 9 by existing Suite 8 owners.

I purchased education version 8 only about a month ago and then I purchased analog. I noticed you are offering free upgrade to anyone who buys 8 now. I don't see free upgrade option in my account. I haven't even had a single update, I have also had many issues with ableton so far so there is no way I am paying more money for 9. I think this is highly unfair being as I have only purchased very recently.

Another confussion:

Right now in the Push page it shows "upgrade prices" are these for live intro coming with push?

Is there going to be special upgrade prices to live 9/suite if we buy the PUSH?

Because right now:

Ableton 8 to suite + 9 for free: 194 USD
Push + upgrade to suite: 948
Push alone: 599

So If I upgrade now I would spend 794 USD on upgrade plus controller, while if I buy the controller and up then it will be 948 (even more than upgrading for full price to suite 9?)? That doesnt make sense at all, unless it is only showing the prices for a live intro license that will come with push

Is there some kind of overview of how much of a discount for every previous bought component?

For example, I have Live 8 and Max for Live, and I bought the Live 8 Suite > Free Live 9 Suite upgrade for 179 euro. But there seem to be people without Max for Live - or other components - who also could do the upgrade for 179 euro?

Great to hear this. Was feeling very disheartened as a Live 8 Suite / Max for Live owner when I saw the upgrade price. Particularly when reading about non-Suite owners who could upgrade for less! Appreciate that you're running a business and can't give it away though ;)

Push looks great too by the way! Seriously considering selling my APC and Launchpad for that.
