L9: clip automation unlinkable? (8 bar tweaks in 1 bar loop)

Will this work, especially using PUSH?

As in
- record drumloop: one bar
- enable clip automation (unlink button on PUSH?)
- automate/fiddle/tweak for 8 or howevermany bars
- tadaa!

or would we have to adjust looplength first?
