Some more details about Live 9 The Glue and EQ8 improvements

Post by locojohn » Sat Oct 27, 2012 6:08 pm

I thought I'd share some more information about new Live 9 devices that I just received from Andy (Cytomic):
As you have already pointed out the Glue plugin version allows a separate selection for Realtime (Off to x16) and Render (Off to x64). The Live version has a selectable x2 linear phase oversampling filter which is always on or always off and can be activated by right clicking on the top bar and select "Oversampling" from the menu.

The only other difference is that The Glue offers a very gentle one pole high pass filter which is good for de-emphasising bass frequencies, whereas the sidechain filter in Live version is a minimum of two pole, but you also get a full EQ section with shelves etc, and easier selection of an external sidechain source.

Also check out the new linear SVF algorithm I did for the EQ 8 device. Not only is it ultra clean, but you can smoothly modulate it without any horrible artefacts that are normal in many other EQs. If you have projects with many EQ 8 devices this update will make everything sound better. I have heard people complain about Live's summing engine making things sound bad, but I don't think this is the case at all, I believe the old EQ 8 algorithm had much more to do with it, so I can't wait to hear peoples feedback on this with real world projects.
