Another new user question: Silencing a portion of audio

Is is possible to silence a section of audio in a Audio clip? I highlight the section I want, right click but there is no option to make the section silent.

Highlight section, Control E, right click. deactivate

Is this in session or arrange view? In session you can use volume automation, in arrange you can also automate or you could also just delete the section you want silenced. As long as there's still part of the clip to the left or the right, you can always recover the deleted section by dragging the edge of the remaining clip out.

I have clips in both arrangement view and session view..I'm hoping that I can do this in Session view and have the outcome affect the clips in the Arrangement view...or will I have to re-record the clips?
